Kisspeptin (metastin) refers to peptides derived from the KISS1 gene product, acting as endogenous ligands for GPR54 (KISS1R), a class A GPCR. The biologically active C-terminal decapeptide (kisspeptin-10) retains full receptor binding activity and is a widely used research isoform. Kisspeptin signaling is a critical upstream regulator of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis, controlling pulsatile GnRH secretion.

Research applications include GPR54 binding and activation kinetics, GnRH neuron signaling studies, investigation of kisspeptin neuron distribution and electrophysiology in hypothalamic slice preparations, reproductive axis feedback loop modeling, and tumor biology applications given KISS1’s original identification as a metastasis suppressor gene.
