5-Amino-1MQ (5-amino-1-methylquinolinium) is a small molecule inhibitor of nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), an enzyme that catalyzes the methylation of nicotinamide using S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) as the methyl donor. NNMT is expressed in adipose tissue, liver, and muscle, and is implicated in epigenetic regulation through its impact on the methyl group pool.

Research with 5-amino-1MQ has focused on NNMT enzymatic inhibition kinetics, cellular NAD+ and SAH/SAM ratio modulation, adipocyte differentiation and lipid metabolism studies, and investigation of downstream epigenetic effects via histone methylation patterns.
